Initial Training & Joining the association
We continue actively looking to recruit new members in all areas of the country throughout the year. During the 2010/11 season for example, we ran 6 Initial Training Courses from which 16 new umpires joined the Association. The total number of active members we have fluctuates a little but currently stands at approximately 130. Each season we officiate at approximately 300 events and clock up around 10,000 on-court duties between us, often more. So we recognise that recruitment of new members is essential if we are to be able to continue to be able to attend the large number of events that request our services.
Initial Training courses are usually held over the course of one day, comprising both theory and practical aspects. We cover the laws of badminton, umpiring announcements and procedures, and you will have an opportunity to umpire and service judge both singles and doubles games. After completing a course, if you then join the Association, you will be assigned to a regional secretary who will become your main contact. The regional secretary will liaise with you about your availability for matches and tournaments, and then invite you to events within your local region.
If you would like to join us on a future Initial Training Course please registered your interest with us by completing the form below & someone will get back to you with details of an appropriate venue & date for you together with costs etc.
The next Inital Training course will be held at:
Harrogate
on Sunday 22nd January 2012
